Family Adventure

by Mary Joyce Johnson

Our family loves adventure;
I'll bet yours does, too.
But there've been times we've bitten off
More than we could chew.

Like the time we crossed the ocean
In just a little yacht,
We were looking for adventure,
But that's not all we got!

Hurricanes and water spouts
And every sort of weather
Tossed our trusty boats about
While we hung on together.

That summer we had quite a fright
And almost met disaster
Trying to help a slave boy
Find freedom from his master.

We met a faithful Christian friend
While touring a foreign land,
Then saw him face a martyr's death
When he bravely took a stand.

Our lives are richer, our family closer
Because of where we've been.
And though sometimes we're terrified,
We'd gladly go again!

But now, perhaps we've gone too far;
Have we caught that deadly disease?
"Come on, Daddy, don't stop now;
Read one more chapter - please!"
